Why Some People Never Leave the Northeast Kingdom

People ask why anyone stays here.

The winters are long.

The roads can be rough.

The nearest anything is usually farther away than you'd like.

And yet people stay.

Not because it's easy.

Because it feels real.

There are places designed to impress visitors.

And there are places designed to become home.

The Northeast Kingdom has never tried very hard to be the first one.
